Street Fighter Vs. Tekken

A trailer was shown off During Capcom's Super Street Fighter 4 panel at Comic-Con today, for Street Fighter X Tekken for PS3 and Xbox 360, the official name for the game pitting characters from two of the most popular fighting game series ever against each other for the first time. At Comic Con (which is sold out according to G4), Yoshinori Ono and Katsuhiro Harada (SF 4 and Tekken producers, respectively) announced two games to the audience. The first is Street Fighter X Tekken, and they did say they want fans to call it Street Fighter Cross Tekken, and the second is Tekken X Street Fighter.

SFXT, as I'm calling it for the sake of my fingers and wrists, is of course a fighting game that will feature both Tekken and Street Fighter characters on a 2D plane with EX-esque super moves and the art sytle of Street Fighter 4. The title is being developed by Capcom. TXSF, is the same concept with different gameplay. Street Fighter characters are fighting in Tekken's world, which will feature 3D framework fans know from the series, and this title is being developed by Namco.

The announcement came in what almost sounds like the promotion for an epic wrestling match -- the proceedings of the panel were suddenly interrupted (very deliberately, of course) by producers of the Tekken series, and this was followed by a trailer that made the game official (we should have some footage up soon). Evidently SSF4 producer Yoshinori Ono first approached Tekken 6 producer Katsuhiro Harada about the idea, since Ono heard Harada was a Street Fighter fan.

Details on gameplay are still a little sparse, but some gameplay footage was also shown, which appeared to show how characters could tag each other in during Ultra combos. The demo showed Ryu and Chun-Li teaming up to take down Kazuya and Nina.
